The Artazul offers us all you can ask of a canyon: endless rappels, canyons, pots, jumps and slides and a huge waterfall.
The perfect combination: Vertical drops and a fun water pool. By far the best decline in the Basque Country.
To make the descent of the Artazul ravine, we will approach the municipality of Arteta, Navarra. More specifically to the source or village spring. The Spring or Nacedero de Arteta is located in the Valley of Ollo and is one of the natural outputs of the aquifer of the interior of the Sierra de Andia. Hence, the ravine is also known as the ravine of Arteta.
In this environment we will find ourselves in front of a limestone plateau of about a thousand meters of average altitude with abundant outflows of water and typical forms of karstic relief such as sinkholes, chasms and lapiaces. In this enclave are the ravines of Artazul and the Lizebar.
We will park the vehicles and the dry clothes in the parking lot of the spring, next to the Udarbe river, and we will climb in the vehicle of attack to the vicinity of the towns of Ultzurrun and Aizpun, already in the superior part of the plateau.
Once we equip ourselves with neoprene suit, harness with descender and anchor and helmet, we will take a very short walk that will introduce us to a technical, dynamic and very aquatic descent.
Then we will find a technical, fast and very wet descent.
Water and fun, with several abseils, jumps and slides, some of which are very spectacular. This is a canyon full of constant surprises.
With a final leg not suitable for all, there is a 45m high abseil, the last 30m of which are fully exposed. Your body will experience a real rush!
Try it. You won’t regret it. In fact, you’ll probably want to do it again!
