CAVING
Practical and theory driven course adapted according to the needs and experience of students.
INITIATION COURSE:
Personal and group equipment: Characteristics and usage.
Transverse progression: Navigating minor obstacles, projections, crawling, slips...
Vertical progression: Secure rope descent and ascent, handrail progression.
Safety: Frequent risks and what to do in an emergency.
Topography: Reading the basic signs and preparing for a day of caving.
IMPROVEMENT COURSE:
Advance improvement techniques: Splits, step knots, equipment changes etc.
Setup techniques: Knots, top guides, subdivisions, diversions and handrails
Safety and Self-rescue: Prevention, rescue, descent, ascent, dealing with injuries.
Topography: What to expect, reading data, profile drawings, surveying programs.
Planning trips: Researching information, things to bear in mind, preparing equipment.
Guidance: Leading a group, work roles and group safety.
The extent to which we address each aspect will depend upon the group ability and the duration of the course.
